	Ulf's RETRO-DESIGN-PAGE This page contains some projects of watches or other technical device which I would like to develop soon... When ? Don't ask me, time will show.... PROJECT 1: A clock with Numitrons.... Numitrons are Tubes, which don't use LEDs or Neon discharge effects (likes Nixies) but glowing wire segments to show numbers. This leads to a very warm colour (white-yellow). You can see the changing of the segments if they are switched on or off: The change will take some time. Although this effect is only few millseconds, you can recognize this typical Numitron look. My Numitron clock works with 6 Apollo Numitrons: Big ones for hours and minutes, smaller ones for seconds. Of course it is capable to display time and date in both 24 and 12 hour format. It has an automatic calendar to calculate the day-of-week. Also a calibration factor can be entered to guarantee high accuracy of the clock. What is missing: Automatic Daylight-Saving-mode - but this is "only software" ;-)) APRIL 2004: YEAH - MY FIRST RETRO - PROJECT IS FINISHED !!! PROJECT 2: The idea is to create a VFD-clock (not Nixie !!) wtih these nice 15-Segment tubes.... The tubes are from Armenia, new in box. The clock will have 4 digits and shall use different partly animated fonts. It shall be in the way as my GEEK-KLOK works: STATUS OF THIS PROJECT: 24.12.03: Concept is quite clear, controller is selected. PROJECT 3: This is a collaboration with Dieter Waechter: A Nixie-Wristwatch !!! You can read our concepts here: http://www.tube-tester.com/sites/nixie/nww/nixie-watch.htm We will have to use tiny little Nixies, i.e. the ZM1290: STATUS OF THIS PROJECT: 24.12.03: Concept of power supply and driver circuit is ready, Controller is selected, but many big and small issues to be solved.... PROJECT 4: Something very special: An analogue Nixie-Clock By random I found Analogue-Nixie-Tubes. It should be possible to develop an exotic clock by using three of them: One for hours, minutes and seconds.... STATUS OF THIS PROJECT: 24.12.03: At the very very beginning.... PROJECT 5: Actual my favourite thing: A classic LED-Wristwatch . It should be developed with modern technique (i.e. a Lithium-Battery) but uses staight simple functions - a tribute to the developers of the very first LED-watches more than 30 years ago. Displays and controller are already selected and present: STATUS OF THIS PROJECT: 24.12.03: A development system is assembled.
